Hello everyone,

I’m Sahil and I’ve been writing a lot all over the internet. I’m new here to the redesigned TechShack editorial team and I hope you all enjoy my writing.

I’m starting off with one gadget that I”m really looking forward to in the next 6-9 months. It was really hard but I narrowed it down to the Wii U. Mainly because I don’t own a console as yet and I’m a huge gamer.

The Wii U is an upcoming home video game console by Nintendo, and the direct successor to the Wii. The system is expected to be released in 2012 and was unveiled during Nintendo’s press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2011 on June 7, 2011. The console has been described as belonging to a new eighth generation.

The Wii U is Nintendo’s sixth home console and the first Nintendo console to produce 1080p high-definition graphics, and features a new controller with an embedded touchscreen. The controller allows a player to continue a gaming session by displaying the game even when the television is off. The system will be fully backwards compatible with Wii, and Wii U games can support compatibility with Wii peripherals, such as the Wii Remote and Wii Balance Board. However, it will not be backward compatible with Nintendo GameCube media.

That’s all for this very moment, but I promise you, I’ll be back soon enough.

Most if not all of us have been pretty satisfied with Windows 7. With obvious security and performances enhancements over Windows Vista, Windows 7 is slowly becoming the operating system of choice for many. With that said, we still find that that Microsoft has left out some pretty usable features in their most recent release of Windows. Yes you can always buy and download third-party programs to accomplish what you need done, but isn’t it nice when Microsoft bundles up everything you need all together? Wait a minute…didn’t Microsoft get criticized for doing just that a few years back, when they started to bundle Internet Explorer with their PC’s, not giving NetScape a chance to breath? I think Apple and the invention of the Mac ended all that…

UltraMon, for those who haven’t used it, is really the ultra utility for any dual monitor users out there. With computer enhacements in the past decade, more users than ever, especially at work environment are using dual monitors to increase their performance. In fact a recent study proved that using a second monitor can actually help increase your proficiency over 30%. Make sure to tell your boss that on your next review.

In all seriousness, UltraMon is an amazing little program that lets you quickly and easily alter the settings of each monitor with a cute little system tray icon. More notable, UltraMon adds several buttons on the top right of each window. Of course everyone is used to just have a minimize, maximize and cancel button, but with UltraMon, you are graceed with two more fancy buttons – full dual screen expansion, and another button that lets you quickly and easily send any window or program to your other screen. Thats right, no more dragging, resizing and such. We know that Microsoft added the new Snap utility to Windows 7, and it would have been nice to see the advent of some more features for dual screen users. Even more so, UltraMon also adds you a much-needed taskbar on your second screen. We stil don’t really understand why Microsoft doesn’t simply add any of these features, but for now, do yourself a favor and download UltraMon.

UltraMon is a utility for multi-monitor systems, designed to increase productivity and unlock the full potential of multiple monitors.

efficiently move windows and maximize windows across the desktop

manage more applications with the Smart Taskbar

control application positioning with UltraMon Shortcuts

multi-monitor support for desktop wallpapers and screen savers

mirror your main monitor to secondary monitors for a presentation

For more information, read the Overview and take the Feature Tour. A full-featured trial version is available for download.

Upon searching for a new camera, we were left with a few choices as to what would give us the best bang for our buck. Digital SLR cameras have become ubiquitous by user choice, due to their ability to take professional grade pictures for the average user. Due to their immense popularity, many companies, namely Sony and Nikon have begun to develop their own brands of SLR cameras over the years. As technologies adapt and advance, the cameras have gotten smaller and more feature packed than anyone can hope for. In all seriousness, the average user will probably only use about 20% of the features these cameras have to offer. Of course if you are using them for professional grade work, the feature rich Digital SLR cameras will also be your weapon of choice.

More recently, Nikon has launched a few new SLR cameras, including the D300S, D3S, D3000 and the D5000. We have chose to review the D5000 which is one of the more affordable models. Several DSRL models can retail for several thousands of dollars, while Nikon’s cool D5000 currently retails for $629.95, a several hundred dollar price drop from its original cost. Some packages for this camera may include the 18-55mm lens, but of course any older Nikon or Nikkor lenses will fit in just fine.

Compact and powerful, the D5000 is a remarkable blend of simplicity and advanced D-SLR capabilities with breathtaking 12.3-megapixel image quality ~Nikon.com

In the box, you will find: the D5000 camera and the following:

EN-EL9a Rechargeable Li-ion Battery

MH-23 Quick Charger

DK-5 Eyepiece Cap

DK-24 Rubber Eyecup

UC-E6 USB Cable

EG-CP14 Audio Video Cable

AN-DC3 Camera Strap

Body Cap

BS-1 Accessory Shoe Cover

Software Suite CD-ROM

A chock full of accessories are included, and probably the only thing missing is a nice case to protect your investment. After opening the box, we simply charged up the camera for several hours while we installed the software on our PC. Nikon has made it pretty brainless to transfer and edit your images with their transfer wizard, and video editing programs. You can easily re-size and crop images, remove red-eye and adjust an array of settings directly from your computer. Windows 7 users will also find that they may not even have to install this software. The computer auto-recognized the camera upon input to the USB connection, and after a few seconds a new screen pops up giving you several options including to import all images and videos to your computer.

For most users, 12.3-megapixel should be more than sufficient, unless you are creating poster size images. A nice added bonus over the D5000′s predecessor the D3000, the D5000 also takes wonderful video at 720p HD resolution. From our test of the video capabilities, we were more than surprised with what this camera had to offer. With nice added effects, you can easily blur out the background and focus clearly on your object of choice. We took a few sample videos and were utterly amazed on what we saw. Hairs, fibers and blemishes that are not even noticeable by the naked eye in reality were shown on our computer screen when we played back the video. We can now see why some actors are shunning High-Definition which can often augment their imperfections.

[[Show as slideshow]]

The Nikon D5000 also advertises its Vari-angle color LCD monitor which can also offer you an abundance of options. The 2.7″ screen can freely show you your shooting perspectives. You can easily adjust the screen to many different angles depending on your comfort, so you can take pictures from all different angles without have to look through the camera. With one button, ‘Lv’, you can easily get the live-view initatied, while you are otherwise shown statistics about the picture and camera mode.

The Nikon D5000 is almost as featured packed as it gets. With continuous shooting at 4 frames per second, built-in image sensor cleaning, 11-point AutoFocus System with 3D Focus Tracking, Auto Active D -Light which can help you restore lose shadow and highlight detail contrast exposures – this camera has it all. You can even edit images right on the camera, with In-camera Retouch image editing. Picture Control Settings and GPS Geo-tagging top off this cameras features which are sure to impress the average photographer.

On probably the only down note of this camera, buttons may be accidentally presses, images may be accidentally un-focused, and videos may be accidentally recorded due to some of the button placements and the size of the camera. For those with exceptionally large hands, this camera may not be for you. The viewfinder is also sometime dim and hard to use. Furthermore, at times, the video quality may middle and become hard to focus unless you are an above-average user of this camera. Make sure you read the book and learn most of the features it has to offer.

Overall, the Nikon D5000 is not only an amazing DSLR camera, it is absolutely outstanding when you combine several factors including its functionality, quality, and especially its price. With it’s recent price drop, the D5000 is now more affordable than ever. With video capabilities at 720p, this camera doubles as a video camera for your viewing pleasure. We suggest you buy a 16GB SDHC Memory Card which can store thousands of pictures and hundreds of videos. In regards to picture quality, it is almost impossible to match the quality that Nikon boasts, as you will be utterly amazed with the output this little camera can produce. Photography has come a long with with the digital revolution, and the advancements that these cameras have to offer a none other than par. If you’re in the market for a new camera that is feature-rich and top-quality, the Nikon D5000 is for you.

Apple has recently released their 3rd Generation iPod Touch which has effectively combined all of their past hardware releases with several new bells and whistles. Most definitely the fastest iTouch device to date, Apple has now also integrated a speaker, microphone, faster processor, and more memory available then ever before. With the 3rd Generation devices out, Apple has released 8, 16, 32 and 64 GB versions of the iTouch. The prices range from $199, to $249, to $299, to $499 respectively.

Apple’s new iPod Touch’s are the creme of the crop when it comes to portable media. There is simply no other device on the market that can compare to the flexibility, features, and ease of use when compared to any of Apple’s products. Even if you are an avid music listener, the new iPod Touch can offer you much else in the areas of video and photo sharing. With the ability to download and playback video, the iPod Touch has become a prime destination for many to watch their favorite movie clips, TV shows, and YouTube videos. Even for the average user who uses their device to enjoy music during a job, the iPod Touch offers a sleek design that easily fits into any pocket. Since the release of the 2nd Generation iPod, Apple has been able to wane milliliters off the edges of the device, resulting in a sleeker and more portable design. The bright and sensitive touchscreen adds great interactivity, make the iPod Touch both simple and enjoyable to use. In essence, you really wont be able to find a more compact portable media device on the market today. With thousands of accessories to chose from, the iPod itself has not only become a want, but a necessity as a fashion statement in our digital culture.

Although the 3rd Generation iTouch embraces us with the most feature-filled and impressive device to date, we still find a few things lacking. Apple will probably add these features slowly with the next few releases of the iTouch (or maybe a new comparable unit?!) in an effort to keep selling as many devices as possible. Some clear missing elements include: a camera, a higher resolution screen, longer battery life and a higher resolution audio/video output jack. It has become evident that many users are now adapting their iTouch for integration with their car, home theatre system, and workouts at the gym. Although the current output may be enough for the average headphone user and jogger, we would definitely like to see increased support for Dolby Digital Surround Sound for use in home theater systems. The iPod (iTouch) has truly become an integral part of our digitial age. Users have begun to take this portable device to share with family and friends not only their musical joys, but videos, pictures and of course gadgets. As aforementioned, the iTouch is seeing some of it’s users stray away from its musical capacities, and are now using the device to transport and project video. Video output to a television is another enjoyable feature (with the appropriate Apple cables), similar Microsoft’s Zune which has also accomplished such a feat. We are also left boggled as to why Apple has still not added an AM/FM tuner to all of it’s iPod & iTouch units. Radio transmission was made possible several years ago, with a short adapter that you plugged into your iPods port, for easy radio listening on your unit. Microsoft’s Zune has a radio tuner built in, and we seriously can’t understand why Apple hasn’t done the same.

Apple now boasts over 100,00 downloadble applications, many of them free, which can quickly and easily entice the average user to download several screens of applications for their pleasure. Although most of them are pretty pathetic and useless applications, it does seem to make the user feel pretty empowered with the things they can do. Users can now download applications which include everything from pinball and skeeball games, to GPS, restaurant and ATM locators, to programs that teach you how to tie your necktie, empower you with a light saber and offer celebrity soundboards. More recently, SiriusXM launched an application that is only usable on the new generation iPod Touch’s which allow you to listen to their exclusive satellite radio stations. With the advent of this new program, and the thanks to the hackers across the net who have jailbroken thousands of iTouch’s, SiriusXM now charges $2.99 per month fee for use of their application. Overall not a bad price when compared to their standard receivers and contracts, especially if you are a true music junky – however, you will of course need internet access to use this, which clearly makes this more advantageous for iPhone users.

With WiFi, a lot is now possible with faster download speeds and a more secure connection to the internet. However, much of the problem lies when you are away from the home or office, and are lacking an internet connection. New devices such as the new Amazon Kindle can now connect to the internet from any place with a signal, using new 3G services that let it download applications, news and data. Apple should definitely look into this for the next release, which would easily make the iTouch more accessible than ever before.

Bose, the mothership of audio technology has recently launched their extensive and expensive line of headphones and earphones. Most of us know Bose as the makers of high-end sound systems and home-theatre speakers, although they have recently tapped more into the consumer market with their brand of headphones and earphones. The headphones created by Bose can offer most users the high-end audio experience they crave, with probably just one downfall – the price.

The Bose On-Ear Headphones offer a very compact design, and are completely fold-able into the carrying case they come with. The inclusion of carrying case itself is a huge plus, as with a pair of headphones this expensive you will want to make sure they are well protected. Additionally, the extra-comfortable foam earpieces provide a very comforting experience, as you sometimes will truly feel that you are not even wearing them.

In regards to sound, you will know what you should expect from a Bose product – quality, quality and quality. These headphones probably produce some of the best sounds capable on a set of headphones, from the highs to the lows, the treble and the bass accordingly. If you’re a gamer, these hedphones will provide a bountiful experience full of rich sound. If you are the average music listener, this headphones will provide great support to your iTunes music collection, as it seemlessly connects to any audio system for easy listening. If you’re on the go most of the time, it may in fact get annoying to carry these headphones around, even in their compact case. For those looking for a more portable version, we strongly suggest the Bose Earphones, another truly remarkable product from Bose. Even more so, Bose offers users a 30-day trial on an array of their products, letting you fully test everything out before you decide to buy. They can probably afford to do this knowing how happy users will be with their products, as they probably seldom get returns.
